University Assistant Predoctoral in Software Architectures (maternity leave replacement)

Job vacancy starting as soon as possible | Working hours: 30 per week | Classification CBA: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc)

Limited contract until: 05 September 2024; The position covers a colleague’s maternity leave and is initially limited until 05 September 2024, but is expected to be extended to the actual period of leave (max. two years). The position might also be extended afterwards as a project position.

About the team:

Your future position is in the Research Group Software Architecture at the Faculty of Computer Science. The research focus of our group is on software architecture, software design and software engineering. Our team currently consists of 9 scientific as well as 2 administrative colleagues. We put special emphasis on a relaxed and cooperative working environment. Social interactions help facilitate active scientific exchange and foster a good atmosphere, and therefore play a big role in our team.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching and administration, which means:

  • You develop software engineering methods and tools with a specific focus on

    • Software Engineering for Machine Learning (ML) and/or Large Language Models (LLMs),
    • Continuous Delivery and DevOPs,
    • Continuous Delivery for ML Applications,
    • Software Patterns, Smells, and Architectures for Continuous Delivery,
    • Performance and Reliability Modeling, Analysis, and Optimization for Continuous Delivery.

  • You participate in research projects and studies.
  • You publish internationally and give presentations.
  • We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
  • You hold courses within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • You are involved in organizing meetings, conferences and symposia.
  • You take on administrative tasks in research and teaching.

These are your qualifications:

Must-haves:

  • You have completed a Master's degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Business Informatics, or a closely related field, whereby knowledge of computer science is assumed to be a given.
  • You have established experience in software architecture areas such as

    • Software Engineering for ML and/or LLMs
    • Continuous Delivery and DevOPs
    • Continuous Delivery for ML Applications
    • Software Patterns, Smells, and Architectures for Continuous Delivery
    • Performance and Reliability Modeling, Analysis, and Optimization for Continuous Delivery

  • You have at least basic knowledge of research methods and scientific publications.
  • You bring didactic know-how and experience in e-learning.
  • You have excellent command of written and spoken English (at least C1 Level). (The team communicates mainly in English!)

Desirable skills:

  • You possess very good German language skills (B2).
  • You are a team player with high social and good communicative skills.
  • You are reliable and can work autonomously.
  • You have knowledge of university processes and structures.
  • You have experience abroad.
